How do I know if I'm pregnant?

Generally, the first sign of pregnancy is a first missed period. If you are late, it would be wise to have a pregnancy test. Pregnancy tests can be purchased at a local pharmacy. You may wish to come into our Centre, at 241 Kent Street W., for a free and confidential pregnancy test.

The test that you take will be either negative or positive. It is imperative that you realize that a pregnancy test may indicate whether you do or do not have a certain hormone which is related to pregnancy. However, it does not give a diagnosis of pregnancy. Your pregnancy needs to be diagnosed by a medical doctor or facility. This can be done at the doctor's discretion using either a blood or urine sample.

Other symptoms of pregnancy are many and variable, including nausea, vomiting, breast-tenderness, or fatigue.

If your test is negative and your period is late, it would be wise to see your family physician. Pregnancy is not the only reason for a late or missed period.

If your test is positive, it is still wise to consult your doctor in order to get medical care throughout your pregnancy.

Whatever your test indicates, the Lindsay Crisis Pregnancy Staff would be most happy to assist you.
